A messy fantasy suite results from Zach’s self-imposed no intimacy rule on The Bachelor

Season 27 of The Bachelor is all about fantasy suites. Or, as Zach calls it, sex week.
Zach says he is not planning to be intimate with any of his final three women after arriving in Thailand, despite the implications of spending the night with them for the first time.
Being back at this point of the process makes Zach anxious, but he says he’s just doing what feels right for him. Zach made it this far on Season 19 of The Bachelorette with Rachel Recchia.
“I want to make it very clear to each and every one women that no sex will allowed in the fantasy suites,” he said, adding that former Bachelor Sean Lowe encouraged him to do this.
Based on the previews, that doesn’t exactly work out for Zach the way he planned, but we’ll see how things play out.
Ariel, Gabi, and Kaity are all (understandably) nervous as they begin to think about how in just one short week they could get engaged. Yet they are also excited about what lies ahead. They confess to the cameras that they are falling in love with Zach, even though they haven’t told him yet.
First up
Ariel says she’s interested in exploring their physical relationship, since it’s important to her to explore that aspect. During the date, Zac admits that their chemistry is “spicy,” but he doesn’t exactly say he won’t get physical with her.
Their date starts with a stroll through a night market, where they try several different Thai dishes. It’s a kind of date Ariel prefers, rather than something overly romantic. Ariel enjoys doing things that test both partners in some way…little does she realize the two of them may be more challenged than they realize. The producers are certainly taking advantage of sex week.
During their dinner date
both Ariel and Zach confess that they feel as if they have been transported to another world when in each other’s presence. Ariel feels she has held back, as she usually retreats when strong feelings arise. She didn’t know why, but finds herself telling Zach that she was falling in love with him. Unexpectedly, Zach responds that he could envision a future with her. He further mentions that he won’t be getting intimate with any of the other ladies this week and Ariel is okay with keeping it platonic. In her confessional, Ariel reveals while she’s slightly disappointed, her priority is making sure Zach feels supported.
Once they get to their suite, Zach already seems to tempted. When they wake up, Ariel says that she feels like their relationship is leaps and bounds ahead of where it was. They go for a dip in the hot tub before retreating back to their room. Despite being tempted, Zach says he did not sex with Ariel, but echos sentiment.
Gabi and Zach meet up on a beach where Zach informs her of plans to spend the day on a private island. When they arrive, Gabi confides in him that she’s been feeling insecure due to experiencing being chosen second in prior relationships. Gabi needs space and bursts into tears, prompting Zach to encourage her to share her emotions instead of concealing them. She expresses how the long wait before seeing him again has been difficult. Zach reassures her that showing how much he cares is a priority for him.
At dinner
Gabi tells Zach that she’s always felt like a priority with him and is falling in love. Hoping to be romantically rewarded, Zach immediately pulls out the fantasy suite card before revealing his no-sex plans. Disappointed yet understanding, Gabi comes to terms with it and they set off for their private overnight together. Both leave the conversation feeling better about where they stand.
Gabi and Zach start off their day feeling good about sleeping together, Gabi even going so far as to call it a great “cuddle sesh.” That said, something else happened between them that significantly altered Zach’s plans for the week. He confides in Jesse, expressing remorse for not staying true to his word despite not regretting the intimacy. Ultimately, he’s just disappointed with himself making things bit more complicated intended.
Zach still has one more date lined up;
Kaity this time. Before this, he visits Gabi to break the news of what happened regarding the other women. As might expected, she expresses her dissatisfaction at finding out about it in this way; feeling betrayed and without any privacy within their relationship. However, his taking her surprise is completed with declaration love, striving remove any doubts from Gabi’s mind about their bond.
The air was thick with tension after their talk, and Zach tried to alleviate it. Kaity made it clear that she didn’t need the full story on his involvement with other women and wasn’t keen to hear about intimacy with Gabi. She found it hard to be joyous for their date anymore, without knowing how to move forward. Zach couldn’t make sense of her response, and Kaity wondered what else he was expecting from her in this situation.
Kaity expresses her dissatisfaction and considers leaving the evening with Zach early. Fortunately, she summons up the courage to remain and discuss the situation. Zach inquires about her wellbeing and wishes to find a way to overcome the obstacle. Kaity previously told him she was falling in love with him, so it was shocking for her when she learned he’d been intimate with someone else. Despite this, she believes their bond is strong enough to work things out.
When Zach pulls out the fantasy suite card, they decide to venture to their private room.
The Bachelor final rose ceremony is fast approaching. Gabi says that she feels blindsided by Zach’s decision to let everyone know about their fantasy suite. Her trust broken, and she thinks he cleared his conscience at the expense of his heart. Kaity is also still feeling a bit uncertain, but she says that they really grew together through that rocky experience. And Ariel still has no idea that even went down, so far as we know.
Next week, Zach will hand out his final rose and an engagement ring to Gabi and Kaity.
On ABC and Hulu, The Bachelor finale airs next Monday at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
